What Will the Church Do?

The Christian Church is at a defining moment in time.

All around the church, across the entire world, government officials, scientists and celebrities are pressuring Christians to be silent and conform. The Bible commands the church to speak and let the light of the gospel shine through proclamation.

And what is the church doing about this?

The phrase “what would Jesus do?” often abbreviated as WWJD, became popular in the 1800s after a book called “In His Steps” by Charles Sheldon. Many Christians use this phrase as a personal reminder of their beliefs. But the issue is that as Christians we should already know exactly what Jesus would do, because he has done it already and we can read about it in the Bible. I think the question before us now is “What will the Church do?” Will we stand firm and voice out our faith in Jesus? Will the Church break its enslavement under the fear of man and instead live by the fear of the Lord? Will the church stop pursuing the idea that it is not right to offend any one person in the public square, but it is permissible to offend Jesus and the Christian faith? For a long time, Christians have been quiet and timid. We sought to be relevant to the world outside and have lost our voice and our uniqueness as the only community that possesses the truth of God. Now is the time for the Church to speak out and declare the truth of Jesus Christ to a dark, confused and lost world. Jesus did not commission politicians and scientists to be the light world. He commissioned his church.

In Exodus 3:10 the Lord said to Moses “Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” Moses answered the Lord like how many of us feel sometimes. He said “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt”. God did not try to inflate Moses’ ego, He simply answered the objection by saying “I will be with you”. Likewise, we are not commissioned to be the light of the world by our strength alone. We are able to do what God has asked us to do because He is with us.

Thank you for taking us back to the written word and assure us that when we stand in faith and speak up God will back us up as he did with Moses.
